Lothian ‘Mithril’ Chardonnay 2020

Lothian ‘Mithril’ Chardonnay 2020

Winemaking

Fruit was sourced from three hand-harvested Chardonnay blocks. Whole bunch pressing with skin contact preceded fermentation using ambient yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by racking into French barriques for maturation. The wine spent ten months on fine lees with periodic stirring (battonage) to enhance mid-palate richness, then was lightly filtered prior to bottling to preserve its vibrancy and integrity.

Tasting Notes

This vibrant Chardonnay shines with bright yellow and gold highlights. The nose is complex and inviting, opening with ripe notes of oranges, bananas, and tangerine peel, evolving into richer aromas reminiscent of pineapple tarte tatin. The palate is surprisingly bracing, driven by a fine acidic backbone that provides lively tension and focus. Flavors of yellow citrus, pineapple, and nectarine dominate, while subtle oak influences add fragrant texture and mid-palate depth. The wine offers excellent length, with shifting flavors that maintain clarity and a clean, refreshing finish. A truly excellent and remarkable wine.
