Lothian Magnum Chardonnay 2018

Lothian Vineyards ‘Special Edition’ Magnum Chardonnay 2018

Winemaking

The 2017 vintage from Lothian Vineyards’ 3 blocks of Chardonnay was hand harvested at optimal ripeness. The fruit was whole bunch pressed, with a period of skin contact. Fermentation was started in stainless steel with ambient yeast. The fermenting juice was racked into a selection of French barrique, followed by a period of battonage to bolster the wine’s mid-palate. Ten months of barrel maturation on the fine lees fleshed out the wine and added richness. Prior to bottling the wine was lightly filtered to preserve it’s integrity.

Tasting Notes

Rich and textured Chardonnay with aromas of ripe peach, citrus zest, and delicate orange peel, beautifully framed by toasty brioche and subtle flint nuances. The palate is full-bodied yet balanced, revealing generous stone fruit flavors woven with a creamy texture and lively, tangy acidity. Oak maturation adds layers of vanilla and caramel, culminating in a long, smooth finish that highlights its sculpted complexity and finesse.

Special Note

The Magnum Special Edition comes in a very unique case. Ideal for gifting or a collectors item. This Magnum-size Chardonnay 2018 from Lothian Vineyards is a rare and highly sought-after release.

Due to its limited production and the scarcity of Magnum bottles, this wine has become a prized collector’s item. Magnums are prized not only for their rarity but also because the larger bottle size tends to enhance the aging potential and development of Chardonnay, allowing the wine to evolve gracefully over time. As a result, owning a 2018 Magnum is both an investment and a celebration of the craftsmanship embodied by Lothian’s cool-climate terroir in Elgin, South Africa.
