Lammershoek Rouge Reserve 2018

Lammershoek Rouge Reserve Rhône Blend 2018

Winemaking

Our attention and care in the vineyards are the main focus to ensure the vines are in the best condition according to our standards. All vines are hand harvested by our team whereafter the grapes are carefully hand-sorted by our local people, trained to identify only the best quality to be used for our red wine. A traditional fermentation method of whole bunch and whole berry fermentation takes place naturally in ancient open top cement tanks and Foudre. After fermentation, the grapes are pressed with a basket press and the wine is moved to barrel for maturation. Maturation takes place in 500l French oak barrels for 18 months before being bottled. The wine is aged in bottle for another year before release. A complex yet, authentic Swartland terroir-driven wine – originating from old bush vines.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant ruby Red. Fresh berries with mulberry and currants being prominent. Well integrated spice flavours. Soft elegant mouthfeel with well-integrated tannins. Delicious cherry and berry notes on the palate.

Personality

An expressive red wine from Lammershoek combined with some attractive cultivars known to be similar to the old Rhône style wines. The wine contains a variety of our exclusively selected Syrah parcels from different blocks on Lammershoek, a very special Carignan that was established in 1976 combined with Mourvèdre and Grenache, all to be found on the farm planted on different slopes. The four-cultivar red wine can be described as elegant, classy, and complex with a juicy palate.
