Lothian ‘Biosphere’ Chardonnay Sur lie 2024

Lothian Vineyards ‘Biosphere’ Chardonnay Sur lie 2024

Winemaking

Hand-harvested grapes from two selected south-facing blocks grown on Table Mountain sandstone with 10% clay. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks without oak to preserve purity. The wine is left on its lees with regular stirring (battonage) to protect from oxidation and enhance texture and mouthfeel, resulting in a sophisticated and fresh expression of terroir.

Tasting Notes

Pale lemon in color, this mid-bodied Chardonnay unveils a fresh, lively bouquet of frangipane, vanilla, and crème fraîche intertwined with enticing scents of nectarine, citrus, and apple flesh, accented by a dusting of spices and honeysuckle. The palate presents a mineral-edged acidity upon entry, with breezy notes of crushed biscuits, lees, and juicy orange segments. A creamy oatmeal texture develops on the mid-palate, leading to a long finish with a subtle vanilla kiss, showcasing elegant balance and complexity from careful lees aging.
