Winemaking

Synchronicity is our flagship wine, the annual reflection of this prime Devon Valley site. We select the best batches of each of our varietals and blend according to the strengths of each vintage, seeking complexity and balance. The vines grow in our red-brown deep rich Hutton soils, and are between 10 (Cabernet franc) to 25 years old and receive no irrigation. Fermented with natural yeasts and aged separately in batches in mostly new French oak for twelve months. After a long and meticulous tasting to ensure only the best components are included in this cuvee, the individual wines are blended and matured for a further 18 months in 100% new French oak barriques. The wine undergoes a light filtration prior to bottling and thereafter is matured in bottle until it is deemed market ready.

Tasting Notes

A benchmark cuvée epitomizing Devon Valley, showing layered red, black, and purple fruits, blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry. Overlaid with hints of licorice, coffee bean, vanilla, and developing savory and nutty nuances. The palate is dense and well-structured yet silky, revealing fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity, framed by subtle oak and mineral undertones. Intense fruit carries through to a lingering, complex finish, assuring excellent maturation potential. A wine of depth, elegance, and site purity, crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Pinotage, matured 30 months in new French oak for added dimension.

Vineyards

Synchronicity is our flagship wine and a unique and expressive reflection of this prime Devon Valley site. We select the best batches of each of our varietals and blend according to the strengths of the particular vintage, seeking balance, elegance and complexity. Vines are dryland farmed on deep iron-rich clays soils with breathtaking views of False Bay; vines varying in age from 15 – 34 years old. Regenerative farming is very much the focus so as to ensure longevity of our vineyard. Annual average yields top out at 6 tons/ha.

The 2016 Synchronicity is a vintage we’re particularly proud of as it epitomizes the unique terroir of Devon Valley in Stellenbosch. The 2016 reflects the depth and complexity of a great vintage, offering layered red and black fruit with subtle savory nuances. A meeting of power and elegance, wrapped in velvety tannins with structure to offer wonderful maturation potential.

One is cautioned not to choose a favourite child, but this is a near impossible task when a wine such as the Synchronicity is included in one’s portfolio.
