Bosman Méthode Ancestrale Chenin 2023

Bosman Méthode Ancestrale Chenin Blanc 2023

Winemaking

The grapes were sourced from a Chenin Blanc vineyard planted in 2009 called Dennebos (Pine Forest) on the farm Naby. This vineyard has always been a firm favourite in the Bovlei, noted for its concentrated fruit quality and finesse. We pick, destem, press and ferment at cool temperatures. Then we bottle, riddle, disgorge and that’s it. No additions of any kind.

Tasting Notes

The wine shows a medium straw color. Lovely fresh yellow pear, Granny Smith apples, and a touch of citrus on the nose. Categorized as a dry sparkling wine, the gentle acidity and signature Chenin chalkiness are beautifully rounded out with lemon curd and pear notes. Fresh lime, green apple, jasmine, and hints of honeyed stone fruit with a touch of flinty minerality add complexity. This vibrant, crisp, lightly textured wine is matured in concrete and oak, with a slightly unfiltered, rustic charm. It’s perfect as an aperitif or paired with sushi and spicy cuisines. Serve well-chilled to highlight the youthful, energetic character.

Special Notes

Despite its recent surge in popularity, Pétillant Naturel wines are far from a new fad. This sparkler, dates back pre-Champagne, where the wine is bottled prior to fully completing its first fermentation, allowing carbon dioxide to be produced in the enclosed bottle by the natural sugars found in the grapes.
Only, it isn’t actually Pétillant Naturel this time. While the method of production is exactly the same, the wine ended up with more bubbles, and therefore is classed as a Méthode Ancestrale instead. But we’ve got used to saying Pet Nat, so we’ll stick to that name for now.
