Lammershoek Tinta Barocca 2017

Lammershoek ‘Die Ou Man’ Tinta Barocca 2017

Winemaking

Great care is taken in picking the limited quantities of grapes for this old dude during the cool early morning at optimum ripeness levels. The berries are then fermented in open French oak barrels. Punch-downs are performed gently by hand. After the fermentation and a gentle basket-pressing, the wine is aged for a further 18 months in old 500 L French oak barrels. Then follows bottling and a further two years before release.

Tasting Notes

The 2017 ‘Die Ou Man’ exhibits a striking pomegranate red hue. Aromas combine expressive dark berries, pencil shavings, and hints of chocolate and spice complexity. On the palate, the wine is sublimely structured with ripe, finely grained tannins supporting a full-bodied character. The lingering aftertaste reveals elegance and balance, reflective of the estate’s vines planted in 1969.
