Winemaking

The 2022 vintage Pinot Noir comes from a 3.25ha vineyard planted to two different clones. Hand harvested, destemmed, naturally fermented in open fermenters for a period of ten days, utilizing ambient yeasts and delestage to coax both flavor and colour from the fruit. The must was lightly pressed, racked-off into French oak barrique (25% new) and malolactic fermentation occurs in Barrique. The wine was barrel-matured for a period of eleven months and lightly filtered prior to bottling in order to maintain the wine’s integrity and delicate Pinot Noir flavor spectrum.

Tasting Notes

Light crimson in color with enticing aromas of fresh strawberry, red plum, spiced orange, and dry oat flakes. The palate is light to medium-bodied, broad and accommodating, showcasing ripe, juicy fruits balanced by lively, bright acidity. Layers of clove, cinnamon, dark chocolate, incense, and hints of cola tonic enrich the tasting experience, while gentle spices caress the tongue. Fine-grained tannins lend structure and depth, culminating in a harmonious and persistent finish.

Recognized for its quality, this wine has earned accolades including 93 points from the International Wine Challenge and 17 points from Jancis Robinson MW. It is celebrated for its balance of complexity, finesse, and terroir expression, securing Lothian’s reputation among South Africa’s finest Pinot Noirs.

Grown on Table Mountain sandstone soil with 10% clay, from four selected east and north-facing blocks, the wine was lightly filtered before bottling to maintain integrity and delicacy. Aged 2 years in bottle prior to release.
