Bosman ‘Generation 8’ Merlot 2025

Bosman ‘Generation 8’ Merlot 2025

Winemaking

Our Merlot sites range from plantings as early as 2001 to as recent as 2013, some planted in schist soils near Hermon, which gives structure to the wine; and vineyards planted in granite soils in the Bovlei which create the appealing fruit and minerality. Grapes are hand-harvested and de-stemmed before fermentation. Regular pump-overs ensure good colour extraction and gentle pressing, which results in a tannin expression that is fine and subtle. A portion of the wine is matured in French oak for 6 months to create a complex wine with supple tannins.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant purple heart with a ruby rim. A medium bodied wine with an appealing bouquet of ripe cherries and blackberries, plums and followed through with hints of earthiness and cocoa. A wine packed with red fruit, smooth mocha notes and a lingering aftertaste.

Special Notes

In talking to guests arriving at the farm or at public tastings, one of the most frequently asked questions is if we produce Merlot. It has become that cultivar in which many consumers hope to find something smooth, fragrant and enjoyable-sometimes a tall order for a varietal which is quite picky in where it expresses itself best.

Always up for a challenge, we decided to showcase the very best in bright Merlot fruit from Wellington. We used techniques in the vineyard and in the cellar to make this wine as approachable and as interesting as possible.

Our efforts and Wellington’s climate is well-rewarded in the final product, but the proof is in the drinking.
